The Who and Why

Hi, I am John. I have been editing videos, producing videos and various media since 1979. That’s a long time… I should know, I was there. And yes an important thing to know about me is I have a sense of humor.

In the mid 1980’s, I started getting involved in what has become to be known as personal development. Many at that time – including myself I might add – might have lumped it all into “positive thinking”, which this industry and/or movement could possibly be traced back to.

“Positive thinking” has significant baggage attached to it, and I don’t want to carry that around, so I will start where I started and that was with Earl Nightengale and his million selling recording called “The Strangest Secret”. Written for a sales conference in 1956, it had such an impact on the group, he was asked to record it for those who weren’t there. One thing lead to another until he had sold over a million copies of the recording. The first million selling spoken record ever. The philosophy it espoused had such an impact he eventually created a company called Nightengale-Conant around it and the self help/personal development industry as it is known today was born. I may tell the story of how I came across this recording at some future time, but for now all you need to know is it sent me on a pretty intense 10 year journey. 10 years would be the phase 1 of the journey… the journey of course never ends… the more books I read, the longer I live, the more connections I make the more the journey deepens and continues.

In anycase, I have read that many people – when they reach a certain stage in life may want to share what they’ve learned… that is the stage I am in. I hope that you will find some of these insights helpful, or thought provoking. I will never be an expert in life… few if any could ever be because we are all on our own journey, and these are reflections of mine.
